Oh my goodness, today was awesome but I have to write about yesterday. After spending the night in Bridgewater we went to Church in West Winfield. Then to Syracuse and The Erie Canal Museum and Visitors Center. I don't know why the canal fascinates me so much, but it does. The elevator was even wonderful. Pictures on the outside and a beautiful mural inside with a story going on as you rode up and down. This museum, complete with movie, was in a Weighlock building where the boats were diverted and weighed so the owners could be charged a fee for the cargo. Found out many things were invented in Syracuse. Funny story about Street lights. So many Irish worked and lived in Buffalo and insisted Lights be turned upside down so the British red would not be over the Irish Green. Inside was a full sized replica of a canal boat. Fancy toilet emptied directly into canal. Bunks were put up every night and taken down in morning. Found out Hiawatha was actually an Onondaga Indian. There are some great old buildings in Syracuse.
Next stop was in Canandaiua and ABG. Another Boring Garden. Sonnenberg Garden and Mansion.
As soon as we got there it started to drizzle. Walked around for awhile and all of a sudden it started to pour. Then announcements came over the loud speakers. Everyone inside because of thunder and lightning. So we toured the mansion. There was a display of period wedding dresses spread though the house and that was interesting. Again, bathrooms, (lots) that surprised me. House remodeled in 1900 and there were double sinks, showers and sitz baths. This was one of 5 homes the Thompson Banking family owned. The gardens were really beautiful. Drizzly but went anyway when alarm was lifted. Italian garden had fleur di Lis (?) , Rose garden, Japanese garden, stone garden and more, including a swimming pool, somewhat past its prime. The wine cellar had a beautiful Tiffany window and now sells wine and has tasting. Another lightning warning and then see the hot houses. Left there and it rained for about 20 minutes so hard we could barely see. Kept seeing motorcycles sheltering under over-passes. Stayed in an old Ski resort in Le Roy a Frost Ridge camppgound. They now have Country Music Concerts every other weekend. We missed Saturday
nights concert. It was Molly Hatchet. Left this morning and headed to Buffalo. Turned off the freeway to find Tthe Anchor Bar where Buffalo wings were invented. Our Jenny could live on them I think and wanted a picture for her. Found ABC and noticed plants growing around the top. We are guessing they were planted accidentally by birds. Won't say anymore except, I SAW CANADA. Hugs, Donna
