Carousels, Dr. Seuss and Purgatory

Good morning and Happy Father's Day to all you Dad's that are reading this. We are sitting outside a Church in Carver Mass. Waiting to go in for services. As usual we have had mixed days. We passed by Sandy Hook and said prayers for those poor families. Fortunately we had days that kept us busy and happy. Our first stop after leaving camp in Thomaston, Conn was The New England Carousel Museum, in Bristol. It was in an old 1700s       Hosiery Factory. Only two other people in there so when they left I rreally connectted with the Docent and we had a great time. Not only carousel animals on display, but this was a research center and restoration/ building  facility. There were hundreds of animals in all stages of restoration. I think she ttold me about everyone. Tthere was an acual working carousel and J r and I rode it for so long, it brought back a bit of virtigo. I guess I wasn't too smart. She took me upstairs to anotther section of the building where tthey rent out space for weddings and parties. More animals. I kept wishing Carol was with me to share this time. There was an area about Greece that had been donated. So much marble, they had to reenforce the floor. A bust of Alexander the Great his nose knocked off. Evidenttly people did not like him because he was a conquerer and would go by his statue and chip off pieces. Then Lorretta, tthe Docent unlocked The Museum of Fire History for me and we went though that. Very intresting. Everything from bucket brigade round bottom buckets to tthe jaws of life. I found out hook and ladder came from a ladder with a hook on the top. It was hookd to the building and then to a strap around tthe waist. I even saw an old bumper car. Finally left and tthe nextt stop was Springfield Mass and Tthe Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden. Again we missed friends and wished Mike and Gay were with us to share their love of all things Seuss. Jr had a greatt time visiting the characters. There was even a bonze bag of groceries for him to play with. We stayed that night in Jellystone Park in Sturbridge Mass. Jr met new animal friends and we walked all around the camp and river. Yesterday into Sutton Mass and a great hike down intto Purgatory Canyon. Only 1/2 a mile though the Canyon, but lotts of rock climbing. As we were congratulating ourselves on how well we were doing, along came a little boy (Matthew) and as he scrambled dodwn the rocks, he asked if he could carry Jr. That didn't last too long because he needed both hands. We came back a differeent way and squeezed through Fat Man's Misery and The Devil's Corn Crib. Same name as in Mammoth Cave. I wonderr if it was the same fat man. Climbed into a cave to see Devils Coffin ( shapped rock).
We rewaded ourselves with a big old hot dog.  Then on to Rhode Island and ABC. This capitol wasn't as impressive as some.  Ended tthe dayy in Plymouth Mass and walked aaound our camp and played at the beach. Hugs to all, Dads have a great day. Donna
