Harrisburg etc

More mixed up blogs. We went to Harrisburg Pa. to see the Capiol. Roosevelt said it was the most beautiful Capitol he had ever seen and Don and I agree. We must like gaudy because we thought this was prettier than Washington. Even the plugs and light switches were hidden under tiles on the floor. Security was really tight getting in and I was interested in the barriers outside that came up out of the ground. The arched bridges ( 5 in a row) were very graceful.  Ou net stop was Hershey of course. The street lights looked like kisses and the streets have names like Cocoa, Chocolate and of course Hershey. What an incredible man Mr. Hershey was. I'm going to try to find a biography of him when I get home. We tok the Shutttle to Hershey World. Went for the factory ride. Got our samples. Huge amusement park.

Next morning Church in Philadelphia. What an experience. The streets are so narrow. I'mk still fascinated with the homes with no front yard at all. Don drove around the church and finally drove down a very narrow alley and parked behind a bank. We have since learned that Philly is the city of boots. We were so lucky tthat we came back and didn'tt find one locked on Cmor. Drove around a little after Church and parked in a lot near City Hall. We put on the miles walking that day. We went to see Independence Hall and it was very emotional to actually see it. We saw the movie and then did the tour. After that we saw the Liberty Bell. I think that was even more emotional. Outside was the site of Washingtons House. It was really done well. They had glassed over the foundations that were found I think in 2007. There were partial walls and windows and fireplaces where the original walls were. Each fireplace had a TV over it telling about that room with actors in costumes narrating their story. We walked some more, got mixed in a gay pride parade and then took a bus though town to do the Rocky stairs at the Museum. I sent a picture of Don laying on the stairs to some of you. I did not expect him to do that. After so many years, he can still surprise me and make me laugh. He has so much self confidence and doesn't worry about looking silly. So many people took his picture. It will probably pop up on you ttube somewhere. We wentt to Valley Forge but were disappointed with it. Maybe because there was no snow.
Next stop, New Jersey. I did a little bad nagavating again. We decided not to go up the expressway after spending the night near Atlantic City. We went up Long beach, The outer banks. I was so excited and took Jr. down to touch the Atlantic Ocean. Then we continued North through Surf City, USA and on the The Barnegal Lighthouse. It rained a lot last night and we had fog when we got to the lighthouse. Climbed all 217 steps, round and rround. From tthe top I noticed through the fog, we seemed to have run out of land. On the map, I failed to notice the outer banks were not continuous. No ferry and no bridge. Sometimes Don is so patient with me and this was one of them. He just said, oh well, it's a nice ride so back to hwy 72  and across th bridge again. Stayed in Jersey City last night and can See Lady Liberty from our camp. More tomorrow about our very busy day today. Hugs, Donna
